If U.S. consumers bought more goods manufactured in the United States would help the U.S. economy?

What happened with the Buy American movement. Is this question going to be attacked as "talking points"?

We tried that once with the movement Buy American. It did not work. Why? Not because of greed, but simply because of the monopoly of the Asian markets to reduce our labor costs. Costs Job killed us in the end and that was because of WW2. No government really wanted to get to the nitty gritty truth that 2 income families led the labor costs through the roof and the women's movement does not help either. Sorry, the truth is the truth. The Americans could not afford to buy their own products. None could anyone else.
